Why the Ultimate universe?
So, you might be wondering, why the Ultimate universe? Why not regular Marvel? Or DC? Or any other universe?

Part of the reason is that I've always been more of a Marvel fan than any other, but the regular Marvel Universe --Spider-Man, X-Men and Avengers titles in particular -- just hasn't been very good the last few years (admit it, fanboy). The Ultimate line is just executed better, so that's what I'm reading, and that's what I'm converting.

But the real reason I've chosen to convert Ultimate Marvel over any other universe is that it's fairly new, and all of it -- all of it -- is available in the form of constantly-reprinted trade paperbacks. That means it's realistically possible for me to have all of the source material for this universe. I don't have to worry about forty-plus years of stories with some of these characters (most of which I've never read and will never have the chance to), and I don't have to worry about trying to integrate it all into my conversions. Anything that's happened, I can have sitting on my shelf.

So there you have it. I chose to convert the Ultimate line because I think it's cool, and because it doesn't have four decades' worth of history to slog through. It's as simple as that.
